Lidia Guzy (Ed.): Religion and Music

From the comparative perspective on cultures one can observe that music is used not only in religious adoration and worship but also in rituals of personal and collective crisis. Music as non-verbal religious communication acts as a social form of cultural consolation, commemoration, recollection and the representation of ideas and values as well as a marker of cultural and personal identity. This collected volume aims to formulate impulses for the study of religions, rituals and the aesthetics of religions.

Dr. Lidia Guzy, Studium der Ethnologie, Religionswissenschaft sowie Ur- und Frühgeschichte an der FU Berlin und EHESS Paris; 1999 - 2002: deutsch-französische Promotion innerhalb des DFG-Orissa-Schwerpunktprogramms; Feldforschungen in Gujarat und Orissa (Indien); sie war als Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Ethnologie, FU Berlin tätig. Zurzeit arbeitet Lidia Guzy als Projektleiterin am Institut für Religionswissenschaft der FU Berlin.
